What is Plan B NOLA?
|
Plan B NOLA is a project of The Reproductive Justice Action Collective (ReJAC). We offer free or by-donation emergency contraception (EC) and accurate reproductive health information through a network of Community Support Members (CSMs) in the greater New Orleans area. We are not healthcare providers, rather community members who want to increase access to this important and time sensitive medication.
In 2018, we won the Ellertson Innovation Award in EC from the American Society for Emergency Contraception. Currently we offer the EC through a few community partners. You can also text or call our hotline at (504) 264-3656 to connect with a CSM. |
Why is Plan B NOLA important to ReJAC?
|
ReJAC values an individual's ability to have access to resources that aid them in controlling their own reproductive and sexual health. ReJAC recognizes that a multitude of barriers can prevent people from making decisions that are unique to their situations. EC is no different - major barriers to obtaining EC include cost, inaccessibility, and stigma. For example, Louisiana has a government-sponsored "Conscience Clause" law, which allows individual pharmacists to legally refuse EC if it does not comply with their religious beliefs. In addition, Plan B can run from $42 - $60 at some drugstores. Further, many people are not aware of their rights concerning EC, including the fact that individuals do not need to provide their IDs to obtain OTC EC.

How does the Plan B NOLA network work?
|
Plan B NOLA is a grassroots community effort that offers free and by-donation EC to community members through a citywide network of Community Support Members (CSMs). If you need EC, text or call Plan B NOLA at (504) 264-3656 to connect with a CSM who will work with you to find a time and location to get you the EC as quickly as possible. CSMs also provide condoms, a pregnancy test, and an information booklet about EC, birth control, pregnancy options, and community resources.
Plan B NOLA operates on a "Pay it Forward" model. We encourage people who can donate back the full price ($10-11) to do so, or even to donate back the cost of 2 pills ($22) to support another member in our community for only half the price of one pill of EC at the pharmacy. |
How can I support and get involved?
|
We can only operate with the additional financial support of donations. You can donate through Venmo @REJACNOLA or through our donation page.
Every bit of support helps in the success of Plan B NOLA! Thank you! If you are part of an organization that might want to be a Community Outpost, get in touch via our general contact form. |
